Orbseven - ".ismos." album review

I recently came across this band through my facebook page and as an avid fan of new music i decided to write a review for their latest album. The band themselves are ambient/experimental metal.
The album has seven songs, each with a unique feel to it; I know what I usually say about artists that make too much of an effort when it comes to making each song different. But with this band it actually works and I applaud anyone who makes their music unique, it's just hard to make it fit.
Their first song is called 'Falsifier' It is very ambient in nature and very much reminds me of the music found on games. More specifically fantasy themed ones. This is a good thing as soundtracks for games is a big industry currently and I happen to like games. The song itself follows a simplistic style which doesn't draw away from the spoken parts and that is what you want when it comes to ambient music. Their second song 'Gravity Room' follows the same sort of pattern except the structure of the instruments is more complicated which makes it more of a song and less like an ambient piece.
Their fourth song is called 'A part of Nothing' which has a more dramatic feel to it . imagine a typical apocalyptic film where it shows the destruction after a bomb or something and this song would be playing then. Overall the song has a sort of cinematic vibe to it but that's just my opinion. The fifth song 'Staircases' fits in with this theme perfectly and leads on from the fourth song.
This album overall fits the ambient, experimental theme well and with each song having its own twist to it, it shows that they have put a lot of thought into the album and its songs. I'd rate it 10/10 for creativity and its game/film like nature, what do you think of the album? which game and what film genre should these songs be in?

Powerwolf Blessed and Possessed album review

This album was released on July 17th this year.they are a power metal band from Germany and their main themes are werewolves, christian themes and sometimes vampires.

Their newest album follows this pattern exactly and even includes their iconic Hammond organ sound. their first song, called 'Blessed and Possessed' starts of with Latin. Which is also used throughout their songs. it is about the werewolves who have changed into their 'true' form, and how their human form isn't what they truly are. For example "we die by the dawn all alone" their true selves die with the rising of the sun. It is an interesting take on werewolves. Their second song "Dead Until Dark" follows the same theme.

their third song "Army of the Night" is pretty self explanatory, its about werewolves fighting in a battle against unbelievers or demons. I'm not sure which.

their fourth song 'Armata Strigoi' is interesting however, as its about an army of vampires instead of their trademark werewolf theme. These Strigoi are on a mission to kill anything and possibly everything and are consumed by their lust for blood.

overall this album is similar in themes and their song structures. This isn't necessarily a bad thing for some it isn't much of a good thing either. I like them as a band and do like their stuff. It would be cool if they could sing about something other than werewolves for once. It is interesting how they can sing about werewolves in so many different ways though. This album is good, but not much different from their other albums with the same themes and same song structure. which deducts a few brownie points, nevertheless it is still a good album.

ravenous we are become death album review

this review will pave the way to lesser known band reviews, just a heads up.

They're a thrash/groove metal band from Southampton, UK, if you want to find out more about the band themselves I'll post links below, now onto the review.

their first and only, current album is being re-released in November via a different record label which are also local.

Their first song is called "abhor", this song gives a good indicator as to what sub genre they are. The guitar is very groove yet the vocals are thrash. You may be thinking "what?" or you may be thinking "awesome", either way it goes well together. In all honesty it shouldn't be a surprise if groove and thrash goes well together.

On to their third song; which is called 'Suffocate', this is when it gets interesting. Although the mixture of genres are there, you can really hear who their influences are. to name a few, Machine head, lamb of god, this particular song sounds like its been heavily influenced by machine head and Metallica's music. I guess what they say is true, you sound like the bands you listen to the most.

'Deathstiny' however sounds a lot like a mixture between Pantera and Lamb of God. If they had a love child this is what they would create. this song still doesn't sound too different from the rest of their album , genre and vocal wise. I am one for consistency so this scores them a point.

overall the album switches back and forth between sounds. This is a good thing as long as it fits and doesn't ruin the album. Lucky for Ravenous this didn't happen. This does happen with other bands though. it is an interesting first album and shows what may become of this band.

got your six album review

finally the long awaited release of the got your six album from the awesome band Five finger death punch. As many fans know, they're very military oriented and have raised money for military veterans. As well as performing at bases in other countries.

The album starts of with the song 'Got your six' which is a term used in the military which means I've got your back. This song is about one soldier looking out for another and the idea that the military are family and look out for each other. We should instill this idea into society more, in my opinion.

the next song is called 'Jekyll and Hyde ' which is pretty self explanatory. For those who may not know about this I shall sum it up. Jekyll and Hyde is in reference to the book, which many of us read in school. A doctor takes a drug and starts relinquishing control of his demonic side. which is the idea of this song. He may not have taken a weird drug that makes him transform but something has.

overall this album definitely doesn't fall short of the other albums they have released. Its just as angry as their other stuff and has similar themes. Its a good album and I'm glad the hype didn't kill it like it does with many things. let me know your thoughts on this album. what's your favourite five finger death punch album?

Instinctus Bestialis- Gogoroth album review

I have no doubt we have all heard of Gorgoroth, even if some of us don't like their music. This album was released on June 8th this year and has 8 songs. Overall this album has a more death metal vibe to it, although the lyrics remain black metal in nature. Usually i'd talk about each song individually but I don't see the need for this album. Personally my favourite song of this album is the first one, which is called 'Radix malorum'

I didn't really listen to black metal until recently and this is how I came across their new album and it makes me want to windmill when I listen to it. who knows, maybe I will; I do have the hair for it.
I hope they continue to make music of this caliber. now some questions for you guys:

do you think music and the people who make it should be judged differently?
if you don't like this album, why?
what is your favourite song of this album?

thanks for reading, you're awesome \m/

Ghost B.C. Meloria album review

Ghost and Disturbed released an album on the same day, but were both of them met with equal publicity? probably not as Disturbed have a bigger fanbase, anyways onto the review.

No question about it, each song has its own signature to it. The first song of the album which is titled 'spirit', focuses on synths and gives an eerie feel to the song. it has choir like vocals in the background and it sounds double tracked. both give an spooky sort of feel to the song.

the next song is called 'From The Pinnacle To The Pit' is more upbeat and has a sort of groove sort of feel to it with the bass sound. In a sense it sounds like older metal (classic metal) I think they did a good job with this song.

Now onto perhaps my favourite song of the album, 'Cirice' although it sounds a tad like the previous song style wise. It is a catchy song, even the slow chorus with piano doesn't take away from the epicness of the song.

The next song is 'He Is' sounds like an old pop song, you know when pop was actually good; and maybe a tad country and atmospheric sounding too. Overall I think this song has many genres to it. I like the idea that the song sounds cheerful but the lyrics are dark. The idea of this song and how it fits together is beautiful.

Although 'Majesty' sounds similar to the song 'He Is' the lyrics are more satanic in nature. Though, some may argue that 'He is' is also satanic, Its whatever you identify with and isn't intentionally satanic. Whereas 'Majesty' is intentionally satanic.

overall this album is really good, the whole album fits together well and obviously that is a good thing. What are your thoughts of the album? I'd like to know

Disturbed album review

Here it is, The long awaited review for the new disturbed album. The album as a whole has a political and anti media essence to it. For example the song 'The Vengeful One' is about the media and how it is used as propaganda by politicians(American ones)

Their song Open your eyes is again about the media and how its used by politicians as propaganda. this time its aimed at the people who believe everything they say.

the next song, 'The Light' is about going through a dark time and how not to give up even when you feel like there is nothing left. which is true and I like the way they word this song.

their cover 'The Sound Of Silence' is amazing, David has such a good voice and fits this song. for the few of you who haven't heard of the sound of silence, look it up.

the song tyrant seems to be about a feud between two people, possibly family members. I still think this song has elements of politics with things like "turn the screams into silence", hints that the west agreed to stop broadcasting these attacks.

a very political song is legion of monsters, about how putting murderers and terrorists on the news paper and focusing on them its creating more just like them.

overall this album is amazing and i'm glad they are back. As usual Disturbed haven't failed to impress us. I know I didn't review all the songs, well because I didn't know what to put for them.

Aurelio Voltaire

Voltaire or Aurelio Voltaire (both the same person) is a Dark Cabaret musician. For those of you who do not know about Dark Cabaret, it is theatrical sort of genre. It tells a story, and can sometimes be cheerful and upbeat.

anyway back to Voltaire, he's one of the few more known artists in this genre and he likes to experiment with different genres. with him, no two albums sound the same. perhaps his most well known song is 'When You're Evil' which was featured on Kim Possible and the grim adventures of billy and Mandy. Or his song Brains which was also featured on the grim adventures of billy and Mandy. Which was how I got into Voltaire. He is worth a listen, \m/

he is also on spotify.

Bands Worth Listening To

These bands are in no order of popularity and have random genre's:

Heart Impaled- going with what their twitter says they're a heavy metal band

Visions Of The Night: black metal

Disappearer- rock/punk

Our Last Enemy - I am assuming they are Metalcore due to the record label they're with (eclipse records)

Kobaloi - they have more than one sub genre (death, thrash, groove)

Craigh - I do not know which metal genre they are ,but they are still worth a listen.

Dark Beauty - they're a gothic/ dark cabaret styled band

Voltaire/Aurelio Voltaire - They are both the same person; although he is mainly Dark Cabaret he implements different genres into his music.

Van Canto - They are a Metal themed a Capella band; Yes you read correctly, I am picky when it comes to music but this style really fits.

Disturbed are back and are hopefully here to stay

Yes you guessed it this post will be all about Disturbed, the very band a lot of us grew up with and was our gateway to other bands in the metal genre.

The band officially became Disturbed in 1996, even in the beginning they were successful with well known songs like 'Down With The Sickness' on their first album The Sickness.  from there they have had great success as a band.

their front man David Draiman who so many recognize lists his main influences as James Hetfield, Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. It is easy to see why these people who make up the holy trinity of rock and metal would be the choice for Draiman. Even before the formation of the band Draiman he showed his caring side as he worked as a healthcare administrator after getting his licence.

Mike Wengren who plays drums worked on a side project with Dan Donegan called Fight or flight. I am unsure whether this side project is still running or not though.

Dan Donegan was in a band called Vandal which was an 80s style hair band, he also played in loudmouth for a while. He was the one who founded the band Disturbed.

I will not post anything about personal life as it is unfair to these musicians, feel free to share, comment and message me your thoughts through my twitter @long_marley.

Sabaton- heroes album review

Their album starts of with a song called Night Witches. This is in reference to the soviet female fighter pilots called the night witches. They explain how they were undetectable and a force to be reckoned with . They encompass historical knowledge and put it into a catchy song. This helps with remembering facts and figures with minimal effort. Each song tells a different story which is to do with world war one or world war 2.

mostly world war 2 though, their next song which also tells a story about a person is Inmate 4859. this song is about the polish army captain Witold Pilecki. Who wrote the first report about Auschwitz, he sent information out from the inside as he infiltrated this camp and later escaped to write his report. this song tells his story well and isn't something you'll forget with the style  of their songs.

Their next song of note is called To Hell and Back which is about Audie Murphy. If you know about Audie Murphy you'll know he featured in a film called To Hell And Back.

I have just reviewed three of the songs from their album, however this album overall is really good. I'm a history buff so being about history scores extra points. Check it out for yourselves and let me know what you think of it in the comments below or through twitter.

Hammerfall (r)evolution album review

Hammerfall's newest album, (r)Evolution has a total of 11 songs on it and overall it is a good album. this band is classed as heavy metal. this album has undertones of old fashioned metal which is what makes this album good as it goes back to the roots of the metal genre.

Hector's hymn is the first song on this album, it starts of with a slow electric guitar intro then speeds up after the first few bars. throughout the song it has a consistent beat and is about a medieval fantasy  warrior named Hector. it makes the song a good start for the album. The second song on the album is (r)Evolution which is about a guy dying and what he says on his death bed. be warned though some of the lyrics may sound different to what they actually are. the last song I'm going to review individually is the song Winter Is Coming which is in reference to Game of Thrones. I think this song really puts the series in perspective. Plus i'm a big fan of Game Of Thrones which gives this album brownie points on my part.

You can find this album on spotify, google, play, YouTube, iTunes  so go check it out. Also the Record company Nuclear blast have produced quite a few good bands so if you are looking to expand your music library look into them. Including Behemoth, Anthrax, Children Of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Meshuggah,  Fear factory and Slayer.

Some bands worth listening too

Hammerfall: this is a good band that you'll like if you listen to old style rock e.g. Led zeppelin. As their style is like them
Van canto : they are a German a cappella band who cover the likes of deep purple, iron maiden and Metallica. As well as different bands and even cover into the West from Lord of the Rings.
Area51: they are a Japanese metal band fronted by a female vocalist.  They are kind of like evanescence in a way that some of their songs feature high notes being sung.
Arkona : is a pagan metal band from Russia,  also fronted by a female who does all the vocals even the screaming parts.  A good song to start with is goi,  rode, goi.  Which is about russ warriors shipwrecked
Five finger death punch : the lead singers voice is amazing especially when he sings, cold,  far from home.  I would describe them as hard rock

Just a quick line

I apologise for not updating my blog I have been busy with coursework and stuff but I'll endeavor to update it regularly
